Format of the Seminars

We will meet in the new Training Suite at the Minster Centre. This includes two large group rooms with sofas and chairs, a spacious dining area with tea, coffee, and microwave facilities, and two additional small rooms.  This will enable us to spend time in a large group, in smaller groups, and doing exercises in threes and pairs. There will be a tea break in the middle of the evening.

Participants will be able to sit comfortably on sofas and chairs during discussions but there will be times when we will sit on the floor, be lying down, or moving around the room. Please dress accordingly.

Breathing is our most fundamental mechanism of self-regulation and it exists on the cusp of what is conscious, voluntary, adjustable and what is unconscious, involuntary and automatic. We will explore breath as a tool, starting with a basic understanding of  mouth and nose breathing, chest and belly patterns, lateral  and deep breathing. In each seminar we will explore our own process of breathing regulation through a different lens such as tracking sensation, and through experiencing the effect of movement, sound, and touch on our breathing patterns.

Teaching and discussion will be focussed around each month’s reading material from the Compendium. A combination of sharing  and contrasting experience and exploring the theoretical concepts will help integrate and deepen understanding.

There will be a constant focus on coming back to awareness of what is happening in your body. This will be enhanced is by numerous experiential elements including the use of objects,  warm up games,  and interactive exercises and structured processes for developing awareness. Participants may wish to keep a learning journal for use in and between seminars.

Whilst the course is not a training in bodywork or psychotherapeutic techniques, we will consider how developing embodied awareness is relevant to your work as a therapist.
